AlfaSolar 50 MW Solar PV Project
AlfaSolar signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement for the delivery of electricity from a 50 MW Solar PV Plant, located in Benban, Aswan, with the Government of Egypt in May 2017. The solar park is located in the Benban solar complex, which is set to be one of the largest solar energy parks in the world. The project started construction in early 2018 and was completed by January 2019.
It has been developed under Egypt's feed-in-tariff (FiT) renewable energy program, which was launched in 2014. This project will be one of the first utility-scale solar projects, to be implemented in Egypt, allowing the country to increase its renewable energy capacity. As the solar park would avoid the need for new thermal generation, it is expected to achieve sizeable environmental benefits, with an expected reduction of 60,000-70,000 tonnes in annual CO2 emissions.
